Ball screw / VFD Upgrade for Enco 9100 (RF30) Looking to do some upgrades to my Enco 9100, which is basically a rebranded Rong Fu RF30. Eventually I'll be doing a CNC conversion to it, but beforehand I'd like to upgrade to ballscrews, and a VFD since the pulley system that's currently on it kind of sucks. Proper ball screws have two nuts with a spring between them to take up almost all slop. My 1977 model Boston Digital CNC mill has about .00056" backlash due to large screws with spring loaded nuts. A friend spent a ridiculous effort and money to convert a good BP to ball screws and add CNC. He has .002" backlash.

It uses ball bearing in a helical groove to transfer the motion with very little friction. I converted an RF30 many years ago as cheaply as possible sort of. Even after making the mounts and brackets myself I had 1k in it. Nema 23's are going to need som good gear reduction to work IMO, especially with original acme screws. I used ball screws driven 1:1 with nema 40 500 ozin motors XY, geco drives, and homemade 72vdc power supply.
